Tryout Drills

These are some of the drills that may be done at the upcoming Traveling Tryouts:

Ball Handling
  • Warm-ups-right/left hand pounds, crossovers, behind the back, between the legs, combinations
  • Zig-zag, speed dribble, control dribble, 1-on-1 pressure dribbling, 2-on-1 full court dribbling(older players)
  • Right/left lay-ups from cone
  • 2 person outlet-lay-up (outlet dribbles up middle, jump stops at free throw line, passes to other player going in for a lay-up)
  • One-on-one
  • Partner passing on the move—chest pass, bounce pass, one hand push pass
  • Three man weave—5 man weave(older players)
  • Stationary shooting—five spots
  • Movement shooting
  • 2-line shooting
  • Lane slides
  • 1-on-1 full/half court
  • 3-on-3 half court—looking for defensive 1 pass away/2 pass away/on ball defense
Team work
  • Roll out drill—2 teams/each team under the basket, 3 players on free throw line facing the basket, coach rolls ball towards middle of court, blows whistle and the teams spot and go after ball.  Each team will then try to score full court 3-on-3.
  • Number game (younger players)
  • 5-on-5 (mainly last night)
